Therapeutic Support for Children & Young People
A Different Way to Understand & Respond
Individual, body-based therapeutic support for children and young people experiencing anxiety, sensory or emotional dysregulation, and difficulties navigating everyday life.
I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent young people, including those awaiting autism or ADHD assessment, and children who find it difficult to express what they're experiencing through words alone.
When Words Aren’t Enough
Not every child can easily explain how they're feeling, why they're overwhelmed or what they need. For some, talking about difficult experiences can add to the pressure they already feel.
Yoga therapy offers another way in.
Through movement, breath, sensory awareness, creativity and practical regulation tools, I help children and young people explore what's happening for them and discover what genuinely supports them.
Sessions are adapted around each child's communication style, sensory needs, interests and preferences. There is no expectation to sit still, make eye contact, talk about feelings or perform yoga poses.
Who I Support
Therapeutic support may be helpful for children and young people experiencing:
ASD, ADHD or other forms of neurodivergence
Difficulties with emotional or sensory regulation
Anxiety, overwhelm or heightened stress
School-related stress or difficulty managing everyday demands
Challenges identifying or communicating feelings and needs
Changes in family circumstances or other difficult transitions
Difficulties accessing approaches that rely heavily on talking
For families waiting for an autism or ADHD assessment, it can feel as though everything is on hold. Yet a child may already be struggling with overwhelm, sensory demands, anxiety or difficulties at school.
Therapeutic support can begin with what's happening now, without waiting for a diagnostic label.
My approach focuses on helping children recognise their own patterns and signals, explore what they need and develop practical strategies that fit their individual experiences.
Yoga therapy is not a diagnostic service or a replacement for medical or specialist care and it can provide complementary support alongside other services.
What Do Sessions Look Like?
Every child is different, so there is no fixed expectation of what a session should look like.
Depending on the child's age, needs and preferences, sessions may include gentle movement, breathing practices, sensory exploration, creative activities, relaxation or opportunities to develop awareness of body signals.
Some children engage through movement and play. Others prefer quieter activities or need time to become comfortable in a new environment. Sessions are collaborative, flexible and guided by what feels accessible to the child.
Supporting regulation, not compliance
The aim is not to make a child appear calm, suppress their emotions or change who they are. It's to help them better understand their experiences, recognise their needs and develop greater choice in how they respond.
Working with Parents & Carers
Parents and carers are important partners in supporting children and young people.
Where appropriate, I work collaboratively with families to share observations, explore practical tools and consider how strategies developed during sessions might be supported at home.
The level of parent involvement will depend on the child's age, preferences, therapeutic needs and appropriate confidentiality arrangements.
Working with Schools & Professionals
I also provide therapeutic support within mainstream, specialist and alternative educational settings, working alongside existing pastoral, SEND and therapeutic teams.
This may include individual sessions, paired or small-group work, regular sessional provision or short pilot programmes.
About My Approach
I'm a Level 6 Yoga Therapist with additional training in Child & Adolescent Yoga Therapy. My work is trauma-informed and neurodivergence-aware, and I hold Level 3 Safeguarding Children training and an Enhanced DBS certificate.
I focus on creating an environment where children and young people can explore what works for them, without pressure to communicate, move or engage in one prescribed way. I am passionate about empowering children and young people to feel safe, connected and confident.
